Gundberg wins ACMA Outstanding Volunteer Award

Vectorply Corporation Director of Composites Engineering Trevor Gundberg, P.E. was recently awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Award by the

American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA). The Outstanding Volunteer Award was one of four awards announced that honor the work of individuals that have helped to develop and grow critical markets, advocate for composites and make the industry successful through the years according to the ACMA website.

Gundberg played an integral part in the creation of four new Certified Composites Technician (CCT) program updates, as well as the development of a new Advanced Composites program for CCT. The ACMA will celebrate and recognize Gundberg and other award winners at the Membership Awards and Recognition Ceremony on Monday, October 15, 2018 during CAMX in Dallas, Texas.

POSITION FILLED – Manufacturing Engineer Job Posting

Purpose:

Design, modify, and improve Vectorply’s manufacturing machinery, systems and processes. Will work with in-house and commercial designers to refine product designs to increase producibility and decrease costs. This position will take a lead and be very hands-on in the maintenance PM program as the company continues to develop and improve its performance.

This person will be a responsible for modifying and developing manufacturing machinery and the processes to give the customer the more challenging composites they are demanding.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree and/or experience
5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing plant setting working in Maintenance, Production, and/or Process engineering roles

A passion for machinery and process improvement with a mechanical focus

Knowledge:

Production and Processing – Knowledge of production processes in general, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective and efficient manufacturing. Experience in textiles or other composites would be a plus.

Job description: This position will be responsible for improving the overall operating functions of the manufacturing machines to achieve the desired goals. This will include preventative maintenance programs, machine upgrades to enable difficult production orders to be more efficient, diagnostic/troubleshooting ability to resolve downtime and quality issues and overall machine efficiency improvements.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Improve the machinery ability to run difficult products more efficiently
• Improve the Plant’s weekly PM program making it more effective and efficient
• Trouble shoot electrical and mechanical issues on manufacturing machinery and take corrective actions with a sense of urgency
• Assists engineering in major projects and machine overhauls
• Improve the machinery capability in the reduction of set-up time and difficulty. Make the machinery simpler to operate.
• Takes after hour emergency phone calls for machine breakdowns

Qualifications:

• Analytical Skills and Electrical/Mechanical Comprehension
• Leadership and organizational skills
• Two-year technical degree or 5+ years of experience in an Electrical-Mechanical Technician role
• Experience in machine modifications and rebuilds
• Ability to read and understand electrical schematics
• Basic computer skills
• Understands PLC’s and ladder logic
• Forklift/ Scissor lift driving

Working conditions:

Must work in a fast pace, manufacturing setting while standing or kneeling for extended periods on time while working on machinery. This position can be asked to work any shift as needed for any length of time.

• Must work in a standing or kneeling position for extended periods of time
• Person must be able to lift 50 lbs. without a lifting device.

Vectorply to demonstrate at “Road2Composites: Scaling Up Innovation” automotive workshop

Phenix City, Ala. – On April 17-18, Vectorply Corporation will participate in the “Road2Composites: Scaling Up Innovation” automotive and transportation workshop at the IACMI Scale-up Research Facility (SURF) in Detroit Michigan. “Road2Composites: Scaling Up Innovation” is an automotive and transportation workshop hosted by Composites One, the Closed Mold Alliance, and Magnum Venus Products (MVP), in partnership
with IACMI-the Composites Institute. Live demonstrations will focus on scale-up, light-weighting, and high-volume composites products and processes.

Vectorply Field Engineer Mike Ditzler will present in the Carbon/Epoxy Light Resin Transfer Molding (LRTM) Demonstration on Tuesday, April 17th at 1:15 p.m. The demo will show the steps of LRTM, including reinforcement
loading, drawing vacuum, leak checking the mold, injecting resin, and proper de-mold in a heated LRTM tool. Ditzler will discuss reinforcements in detail, including VectorUltra carbon fabrics C-BX 0600, C-LTi 1105, and C-WVs 0600 that will be used in the demo.

Vectorply receives Economic Development Award

Co-President Trevor Humphrey speaks to the crowd at the Phenix City – Russell County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner after receiving the Economic Development Award on behalf of Vectorply Corporation.

PHENIX CITY, Ala. – On Thursday, March 1 Vectorply Corporation was awarded the Economic Development Award at the Phenix City – Russell County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner. The award was created to recognize a company that has made a significant impact to the local community in job creation and economic growth.

In June, 2017 Vectorply officially opened the doors of their new Donald L. Massey Advanced Composite Reinforcement Center. The new 53,000 sq. ft. facility features 38,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space dedicated to producing the company’s VectorUltra™ line of advanced multiaxial reinforcements. In addition, the new facility boasts 6,000 sq. ft. for Vectorply’s Technical Services and Engineering Team, including a fully-equipped composite materials lab. The expansion also includes a two story, 9,000 sq. ft. office for the sales and service staff.

 

To support this expansion, Vectorply hired 26 employees, increasing the workforce by 22%. With the recent additions, Vectorply now employees 155 team members, with 149 of those positions based in Phenix City.

Vectorply’s National Sales Meeting is a yearly gathering of the company’s four regional sales managers and the entire executive, production, engineering, and service teams at the company’s Phenix City, Alabama headquarters.
