Vectorply Announces Acquisition by Neenah, Inc.

Phenix City, AL. – Vectorply Corporation, a portfolio company of MSouth Equity Partners, yesterday announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Neenah, Inc., under which Neenah will acquire Vectorply for $155 million in cash. Closing is expected to occur on April 1 and is subject to customary conditions.

Neenah is a leading global specialty materials company, focused on premium niche markets that value performance and image. Key products and markets include advanced filtration media, specialized performance substrates used for digital transfer, tape and abrasive backings, labels and other products, and premium printing and packaging papers. This acquisition expands Neenah’s technical products platform into the rapidly growing advanced composites industry and is expected to be immediately accretive to its margins and earnings.

Responsibilities

Sales Territory Management

  • Aggressively grow the business within assigned territory while exceeding customer service expectations throughout the current customer base.

  • Support and grow relationship with distributors through constant communication and swift responsiveness.
  • Budget and control all costs and expenses related to the territory.

Technical Support

  • Recommending appropriate Vectorply fabrics for specific applications.

POSITION FILLED – Composite Test Engineer Job Opening

Vectorply Corporation, a world leader in the manufacture and distribution of composite reinforcement fabrics, has an immediate opening for an experienced composite test engineer to manage and run daily activities at our Advanced Composite Reinforcement Center lab facility.

The primary role of the composite test engineer is to manage and provide both internal mechanical/physical test data to support Vectorply R&D efforts, and current/potential customer data as a value-added resource.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead & manage the composite materials lab and R&D efforts including:
    • Specify, suggest, and procure equipment
    • Create/advise on all required materials, equipment, and test project budgets
    • Create/write lab procedures, test methods, and test database
    • Maintain proper levels of lab ancillary materials
  • Manage daily lab activities such as laminate testing (physical or mechanical), panel fabrication (permeability studies, etc.), and reports based on these activities
  • Provide technical support to the following:
    • Vectorply technical services & engineering staff
    • Vectorply sales and customer service staff
    • Customer base regarding Vectorply reinforcements, VectorLam software, and FEA activities
  • Disseminate relevant technical data derived from lab activities internally to sales and customer service staff

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Composite, Materials, Mechanical, or other related degree
  • Minimum three years’ work experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment
  • Highly proficient at conducting ASTM D30 and ISO test methods for composite materials on a test frame (United, Instron, etc.) and specimen preparation
  • Highly familiar with composite materials including reinforcement fibers, core materials, liquid resins, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with composite processing methods:
    • Hand layup
    • Vacuum Infusion
    • RTM-Light
    • RTM
    • Wet Bagging
    • Pre-pregs
    • Tooling
  • Familiarity with composite laminate analysis and classical laminate theory; VectorLam software experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with composite material applications in aerospace, industrial, marine, wind energy, & sporting goods industries

Purpose:

Design, modify, and improve Vectorply’s manufacturing machinery, systems and processes. Will work with in-house and commercial designers to refine product designs to increase producibility and decrease costs. This position will take a lead and be very hands-on in the maintenance PM program as the company continues to develop and improve its performance.

This person will be a responsible for modifying and developing manufacturing machinery and the processes to give the customer the more challenging composites they are demanding.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree and/or experience
5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing plant setting working in Maintenance, Production, and/or Process engineering roles

A passion for machinery and process improvement with a mechanical focus

Knowledge:

Production and Processing – Knowledge of production processes in general, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective and efficient manufacturing. Experience in textiles or other composites would be a plus.
